Great for third or fourth year/semester Spanish learners
An illustrated dictionary, with the vocabulary in the definitions being more difficult than in learning dictionaries like the VOX, but including lots of difficult to find terms, such as person and place names, and even descriptions of historical events-almost like a mini-encyclopedia.

...

Mi diccionario monolingue favorito
Great dictionary, good encyclopedic section, covers all of Latin American Spanish

Amazing
My Spanish teacher had a 1989 edition, and I thought it an excellent resource, if dated. So when I discovered I could find it - in Spanish - on amazon.com, I was thrilled. I bought it way before it was published, and have not been disappointed. Full color, great maps and tons of illustrations make this a fabulous all-in-one resource - in Spanish. Only minor errors (they said Kitty Hawk was in South Carolina), otherwise they know what they're talking about and I find this a great book.

Eyewitness: Pirate
Published in Hardcover by DK Publishing (01 June, 2000)
Authors: Richard Platt and Tina Chambers
Average review score:

Shiver me timbers, this book be scurvylicious!!
DK eyewitness books are some of the greatest non-fiction books around. The distinctive white background and high-quality photography gives this book an edge over any other pirate picture book. And -- these pictures are real! They're beautiful photos of historically piratey things, accompanied by informative captions and text.

Learn about Anne Bonny, a fearsome female pirate, peruse the pictures of pirate treasure, from Spanish doubloons to richly ornamented crosses. Compare the different pirate flags, and learn about who made each one. Check out the different types of ships, authentic pirate clothes and weapons, and a storehouse of other REAL pirate information.

If you know someone (young or old) who is fascinated by all things pirate, then you must introduce them to this book! It's a visual crash course in pirateness, and it's excellent!

So much stuff!
This book gives lots of fascinating information about the weapons and tactics pirates used. The information is divided into small fact capsules with illustrations, which keeps it from ever being boring or overwhelming. And there's so much on a page that the book's worth re-reading several times, in case of something missed or forgotten. A gotta-have for the piratically-minded!

Good book
This is a very good book with lots of facts about anything that has to do with piracy. If you are inturested in pirates, get it. It is well worth the money.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 2003 Engagement Calendar
Published in Hardcover by Andrews McMeel Publishing (September, 1902)
Author: Unknown
Average review score:

Pretty, high quality, and functional
I was very satisfied with this product. It has a beautiful royal blue hard cover for starters. Every other page inside has pictures from the film, and on the opposite side is one week of spots for filling in events. Lots of room for big messy writters like myself. My only complaint is the planner is a tad bigger then it needs to be.

Nifty!
Ok, so maybe because I love all things Harry Potter I might not be the most objective person out there, but this is just cool! It has a nice fuzzy cover and the pictures, while not straight from the movie, are very nice. I got it for Christmas and I've already used it a lot and its not even the new year. I'd definately recomend this for any Harry Potter fan out there who needs to keep their stuff in order!

Excellent engagement calendar for Harry Potter fans
The design of this weekly engagement calendar is extraordinary. The dark blue velour cover has a pattern showing the Snitch. The title in golden letters ("Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 2003 Calendar") as well as a picture of Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) reaching out to catch the Snitch, perfectly round off the elegant appearance. As extra bonus, the calendar can be tied shut.

The weekly calendar sheets are bound by a spiral -- a promise of great durability. Each double page consists of a full size movie photo, greatly designed with additional graphics and/or quotes, and enough space for notes from Monday to Sunday.

All in all, the calendar is well worth its price, can be used as diary, and makes a great gift for every Harry Potter fan.

This is a great book, one of the bestof all times!!
Harry Potter is back at Hogwarts, his wizarding school, and thankful for it. He had the worst summer with the Dursleys, his aunt, uncle, and cousin, whom he hates. He met a house elf, who caused him to be locked in his room for 3 days, with next to no food at all. Then the Wesleys come to rescue him, in a flying car. But that is not all that happends, Harry and Ron can't get through the wall to the Hogwarts train that awaits them on the other side. Then they remember the flying car. After a rough journey to his school and an even rougher landing, Harry Potter thinks that it can't gets worse, but it does. A cat is found hanging on a lamp post in front of Harry, Ron and Hermione, not quite dead, but not really alive, it was Stunned. Then, even worse, a student is next. Everyone, but a couple of his friends thinks that Harry did it. And when people keep getting Stunned, no one belives that he is innocent. It is up to Ron, Hermione, and Harry to find out who is really doing it, before the Hogwarts students get killed off one by one......

This is one of J.K. Rowlings best. And if you like this book, she is writing 3 more! I also suggest Harry Potter and the Sorcers Stone, the first book, the third book, Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban, and the fourth, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. There is going to be 7 books in all. So far, each book is even better writen than the next. This is a great series!

Hyperbaric Facility Safety: A Practical Guide
Published in Hardcover by Best Publishing Company (July, 1999)
Author: Wilbur T. Workman
Average review score:

from Respiratory Care Magazine
Finally, this book represents an enormous and long overdue effort to create a comprehensive source document that will serve as a safety primer and hyperbaric facility safety benchmark for established and developing hyperbaric programs in the United States and around the world."

The hyperbaric safety environment gets a great assist
Tom Workman has done his homework. While he personally has been involved with hyperbaric safety for a very long time, he still gathered together a group who collectively has a wealth of experience in hyperbaric safety. As the former staff liaison for the Technical Committee on Hyperbaric & Hypobaric Facilities, I had the privilege of working with (former) Lt. General Workman. Not only did he chair the committee, he made certain that experts in various aspects of hyperbaric safety were appointed to help develop and refine fire safety standards for hyperbaric facilities. He has taken the subject of safety in general a big step forward by tapping these and other experts, and provided them with a podium to help teach others about hyperbaric safety. The result is a very comprehensive book on the subject. Operating hyperbaric facilities is a hazard in and of itself. The NFPA standard on the subject has help over the past 25 years to reduce the risk from fires immensely. Mr. Workman's new book will be of equal help for users, researchers and manufacturers in reducing the other hazards associated with hyperbaric operations. I thus recommend this book without any hesitation. Signed, Burton R. Klein, PE Burton Klein Associates Newton, MA (former staff liaison to the NFPA TCC on Health Care Facilities - NFPA 99)

Most important book for every hyperberic facility worldwide
The book features every possible aspect of hyperbaric facilty safety. This is unique, as it has never been accomplished before. To achieve this, the editor Tom Workman, who is a well known expert in the field of hyperbaric technolgy, has gathered an outstanding group of authors from all over the world. I therefore like this book in particular, as it gives a comprehensive review of the available standards and codes of practice for hyperbaric medicine from all parts of the world. It is an imperative to have this book available at every hyperbaric facilty worldwide!

Symphonies Nos. 5, 6 and 7 in Full Score
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (April, 1989)
Author: Ludwig Van Beethoven
Average review score:

Worth Having
These scores (as well as those of the other symphonies) are worth having. Serious students of music can take invaluable lessons from Beethoven's knowledge of counterpoint, orchestration, dynamics, melody, harmony, notation, and form. Additionally these are great listening aids, pointing out "Nebenstimmen" ("secondary voices") that might not be noticed at first listen. This way one can learn to enjoy Beethoven (and other music) as many melodies intertwining into a larger fabric.

Great Beethoven Score
Generally free of errors. Large, readable print and lays flat for study, conducting, or simply for enjoyment. Good for students and professionals alike.

Great, reliable edition.
The print is large and very clear; easy to follow. Everything is laid out very well.

Symphony No. 8 in Full Score
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (September, 1989)
Author: Gustav Mahler
Average review score:

The Greatest of all symphonies
I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. Mahler's 8th is the best symphony ever written. This score while in small type, shows you how Mahler put it all together and does it very clearly. The text translations are given but not much else. There isn't any sort of analysis or in depth commentary, just the music. This is an excellent deal for such an amazing piece. Great for theory students and college musicians wanting to learn a thing or two about composition.

Mahler's Immense Symphony of a Thousand
As a music student, this score was a great score to own: the large print make it very easy to read the numerous lines of instrumentation; the low cost is a must for a starving college student.

This is an EXTREMELY difficult work to study, even if there is a recording. The work is so immense and at the same time complex. Just looking at the first page is tiring.

I reccommend this score highly for music students and music lovers alike so that they may enjoy Mahler's monumental Symphony of a Thousand.

The biggest and most powerful symphony ever written
This symphony is so big, that if one has any chance to read the score while listening to it, do it! The score has revealed so many details about this great work that my opinion about it has changed totally! At first when I heard this, all I could hear was the song, and it didn't tell me anything, but now with the score in hand, I can see the different melodies used with the cross-references all over, and I can follow the progress of the sonata form in the first movement, which is so ingeniously developed that one can barely trace it, but it still follows a very logical consistency. All this I could only see when I read the score! Now this is one of my very favourite works of music!

The Toll Bridge
Published in Library Binding by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (July, 1995)
Authors: Aidan Chambers and Aiden Chambers
Average review score:

Coming or going?
The Toll Bridge is a story about development. The main character, whom is named nicknamed "Jan" within the book decides to seperate himself from his previous life, to clean the slate and start over, to find out who he is and what he really wants for himself. This becomes possible when he gets a job collecting tolls at a bridge (hence the title), which also offers him accommodation in a house where he lives alone. However this isolation is shattered with the arrival of Adam, a character who represents the complete opposite of Jan. The Toll Bridge is about the relationship that develops between Adam and Jan, and Gill who is the daughter of the owner of the Toll Bridge. However the bridge is not only physical, it also represents the mindset of Jan as Gill puts it "You don't know whether you're coming or going." Like a bridge that has two paths to take. Into the future, or back into the past. As the book develops, the characters interact with each other and bring up many issues that are relevant to development of the individual. However, an incident at a party soon smashes the world of the Toll Bridge into pieces, and Jan and Gill soon discover that Adam is not the same person they grew to know - Adam is on the other side of the bridge. This is my favourite book because it contains so many sub-plots that create a complete picture of the development of the individual personality, and evokes thoughts within the reader about their own "character".

I cryed. And I never ever EVER cry.
This book, this wounderful wounderful wounderful book. Is the best one i have ever read. Aidan Chambers is one of the best authers i've ever incountered. He's masterful at teaseing the mind and leafing through are idel imagination, he makes charticors seem so real and alive its as though u are with them in that very room, breathing three air, touchign there skin, feeling their sun. This is a beautful book about a Teen age boy trying to excape his life of lies, then finding one liveing in a world of make believe, and the wounderful bonds that people can form together. I cryed. and i never ever ever cry.

Best book ever written about the last part of growing up!
The years in wich you leave school and start working, or maybe better the years that you leave your parents, start building your own life are probably the most intresting years of ones life. Some people wonder what they want to do and take some time to find out. Jany is such a boy. He decides to leave his parents, at least for a while, and he takes a job at a tollbridge. It is easy working and he can be alone and think about his future. His self-chosen lonlyness is rudely broken at the arival of Adam. Adam seems to have some troubles, so he moves in the toll house together with Jany. Then there is Tess. Between these boys and girl starts a strange kind of friendship, all are very different people. The story is written from the perspective of Jany (mainly, some parts are written by someone else), we learn what he thinks. we are a whitness of the changing of his personality, a change due to his confrontation with Adam, and the 'catalyst' Tess, catalyst in his developing towards a grown up. The book is great because the characters are real, it are real people. Reading it they are for a while part of your life. Jany is very open and fair in what he tells what happens, what he feels and what is spinning in his mind. You can feel page by page what is going on inside him. The only thing I didn't like when I read the book was that one of the characters stoped existing at the best part of the book, without any warning that they would not live happyly ever after. But that is an important literal trick; Jany wants to find out who he is, Adam wants to forget who he is. This book is a book for all ages, although it's probably written for the age 16 - 20. It is a must-read if you like other books of Aidan Chambers (like 'Now I Know', or 'dance on my grave') or if you like to read books with a more difficult structure

Marisol and Magdalena: The Sound of Our Sisterhood
Published in Paperback by Hyperion Press (March, 2001)
Author: Veronica Chambers
Average review score:

Just needs a little more depth to keep it intersting.
This is a light, contemporary story written for Hispanic American girls struggling with two cultural identities. For these readers, this book may fill a gap. However, most of the book moves too slowly. Were it not for the hint of romance, reluctant readers just might not make it through.

Marisol and Magdelena the sound of our sisterhood
This book is the greatest book I've read on my level of reading. It shows a friend ship that will last. Ruben and marisol should have thier own book.It was fun reading: MARISOL AND MAGDELENA THE SOUND OF OUR SISTER HOOD

Made me want more!
I received this book as part of my teaching curriculum, and read it all in one afternoon. It's fast, light, and gives so many opportunities to start discussions on what it means to be from two (or more) cultures, it's scary. I thought it ended too soon, but maybe (hopefully) that's because Ms. Chambers plans to write more about Marisol and her friends. Certainly will draw kids in and the ending provides (at least for me) a chance to allow my students to continue Marisol's adventures and ask them, "What happens next?". Good job!
